Girl Scouts Welcome a New Cookie into the Fold

Today, seven or eight cookies come out each year. The Scouts always sell their shortbread, peanut butter cookies and their chocolate mints. Usually the cookies include a macaroon type cookie, wreath cookies, gluten-free and sugarless cookies. Yet, it has been a number of years since the announcement of another official cookie. Girl Scout cookies are contracted out with three bakers on a national level. Some cookies might be different in different parts of the country. But, starting in 2021, there will be a new cookie – French Toast!

Toast-Yay is the official name of the new cookie. This cookie looks like a piece of French toast bread on one side and has a white coating of cinnamon flavoring on the other side that resembles icing. This cookie is made from wheat flour and does not have any sugar syrup in it. It has no trans fats or cholesterol. These cookies are also a source of iron. The bread side has the Girl Scout trifoil stamped on the cookie. The new cookie is also assuming the place of the largest cookie that the Girl Scouts sell. These cookies will be rolled out over several years to all locations. Check with your local Girl Scout Council to see what cookies will be available in 2021.

Most people love French toast, especially with cinnamon. People all over the country are looking forward to trying these out when they go on sale in February 2021. I suggest buying early, as customers’ favorite cookies often sell out fast, and the Girl Scouts bake just once a year. Fortunately, these cookies last about a year in the freezer.
