Impressive! 3rd-Grader Grows 31-Pound Cabbage

To encourage you to try out the gardens, here’s the story of 3rd-grader Kyra Sutton of Acme-Delco Elementary School in Riegelwood, North Carolina.

It all started as a school project for young Kyra, but she went an extra mile to make it a success. Before the lockdown, Kyra acquired two small cabbage plants to cultivate as part of their third grade cabbage program assignment.

As the brilliant, outstanding student that she is, Kyra takes it upon herself to plant her young cabbages in a garden owned by her great-grandparents. Due to the pandemic, all the plans for the assignment fell through, but that didn’t stop Kyra.

This resilient young girl continues to take care of her cabbages- spending enough time to provide water and to clear out the weeds in the area. The Coronavirus might have taken school away from her, but she wasn’t going to allow her cabbages succumb to the same fate- at least not without a fight.

Weeks later, Kyra’s resilience finally paid off- her cabbages grew to monstrous sizes. This is quite unusual for cabbages, so yeah, it is a big deal for her and her family. In no time, her cabbages got bigger than the average human head, making them a magnificent sight to behold.

“She did really good with it. She watered it, and made sure she took care of it,” said Angie Young-Sutton, Kyra’s mom.

Her entire family which included at least three generations of relatives saw her determination and they became a part of Kyra’s cabbage cultivation operations, and the incredible sizes of the cabbages suggest that their efforts paid off.

Here’s a lesson to learn from Kyra. Even if the world shuts down and tries to limit you, endeavor to evolve, adapt, and soar above it. Sometimes you don’t need to look far and beyond to find what’s missing; it could’ve been within arm’s length the whole time.

One of the cabbages weighed by Kyra and her family clocked a remarkable 31 pounds! How amazing is that?

Kyra might actually push to beat the world record of 138 pounds, according to the Guinness World Records. Now she has her work cut out for her, and she can aim to reach that milestone.

Her resilience and determination is enviable. The world would be a better place if everyone was willing to push for good things that they believed in, just like Kyra.

We look forward to hearing more about Kyra Sutton in the future. She has great potential and it should be no surprise if she makes headlines a couple more times.
