When we first have babies, there are a number of concerns that need to be addressed. You have to buy a crib, a bassinet, all sorts of clothing, a car seat, a stroller, the works. However, the changing table is one of the most crucial pieces of equipment that you are going to have to obtain. That’s what makes this story such an incredible one.
The changing table is pivotal, for a number of reasons. Parents have to be prepared for any and all circumstances that come their way. When things go wrong during a change, this can cause major problems for the little tyke. A parent has to be able to snag a wipe while they are in the process of changing their baby. They will also need access to fresh diapers.
If either of those steps cannot be handled in a timely fashion, a number of issues can occur. Let’s just say that every parent probably has a story about being sprayed with an errant stream of urine…if they are lucky. David Pike is well known to many because of his excellent YouTube channel. As the MotorCityMechanic, he offers all sorts of useful advice.
Once he learned that he was having twins, he came up with the most amazing idea. Since David already had two daughters, he was well prepared for what was about to come next. They did not have a changing table the first couple of times around and David’s wife decided that this simply would not do. He’s a smart husband and he readily agreed with her assessment on the matter.
The idea he came up with was quite unorthodox. He was going to create a tool box changing table. He knew that his wife was likely to push back against the idea, though. Luckily, David is a smart guy. Instead of proposing the idea early on and giving his wife a chance to veto it….he waited until the very last minute. He did not want to offer the chance for her to say no.
The end result of this project is a sight to behold. Thanks to David’s quick thinking and ingenuity, his twins now have access to a changing table unlike any other that you are going to see. The tool box comes with a wide range of drawers, so that Mom and Dad can change their baby more easily. They have easy access to all of the items that they need.
The pull out racks that are located at the bottom are certainly a nice touch. Denise is David’s wife and she admits that it took her a few months to come around on this idea. She did not like it at first. “She sees what I see, and she gets it,” David said. In his mind, she went along with this plan because it would allow him to be more enthusiastic about the process of changing his children’s diapers.
Mom just might be the smartest one of them all, in our humble opinion. Sometimes, you just have to let Dad think that he is getting over on you. It’s called playing the long game, people. The idea has since gone viral. Once the family shared their changing table with the rest of the world, no one could resist sharing it with their friends and loved ones.
If you are anything like the rest of us, you are going to want to share this changing table idea as well. This man’s practicality is definitely worthy of praise and we love that he was willing to stick to his guns. Be sure to pass this one along to all of the expecting parents in your life.
Is It a Good Idea to Take Your Persian Cat Camping? I Did It to Help Others Pet Owners Decide
My husband and I started out discussing if you can take a cat camping. This was prompted by the fact that our family was moving from Oakland California to Tennessee in July 2018. Even though we have a lot of experience with moving back and forth across the US, this would be the first time going on a longer trip with our female Persian cat, Mishka.
We’ve had experience traveling as a couple, with our child, and also with some dogs. However, we were certain it was going to be more of a difficult time making this move with Mishka, especially since we had decided to do some camping along the way.
We adopted Mishka in 2014, when my husband saw her on the shelter’s website. She was not doing so well health-wise, though most of these issues we’ve dealt with easily and without further complications. She’s our loveable, sweet mess of a kitty who tends to be glued to one or another of us.
In past moves, we’d just barrel through states within a fairly short period of time. However, we knew that we’d have more time and wanted to camp out before we hit the humidity.
Of course, we worried about how Mishka would do with staying outdoors with us in such a place. The first half of the first day, we walked her on a leash in the redwood forest. She warmed up to the leash eventually and was running with us throughout the forest. She liked to hide in some tree stumps and seemed okay overall.
The downside to so much romping in the woods? Mishka is light-colored and seemed to pick up all the gunk and dirt she could find. Strangely, she did enjoy being at the beach at first. I’m convinced she picked up too much gritty sand and it was too much for her cute little paws. My husband brought her to the car, so the rest of us wrapped up the beach trip as quickly as possible.
Mishka did well with making a stop at a random campground, which we had to stay at due to the road warnings that were up for fire season barring us from going on the roads we wanted to travel. She liked being on a super long leash to chase after bugs… but of course, she did not like having to sleep in a tent. For this reason, we decided Mishka should sleep in her cat carrier in the tent. She would have been overwhelmed at having to figure out how to sleep amongst three humans and two dogs in a fairly small tent. Of course, this also meant there was no room for a tent litter box.. a concern from the start, but we made it work alright.
Food and water bowls had to be kept separate, since our Chihuahua mix tries to eat the cat food. It went fine at first, though after three days it became a bit of a mess.
Fortunately, Mishka is a pretty chill feline. Though she likes a lot of TLC, she is not all that high-maintenance. She did end up being a big highlight of our trip!
When we got to Tennessee, it had been a long two weeks. Since Mishka was dirty and her fur was getting clumps in it, we brought her to a pet groomer right after we arrived. They had quite the job on their hands and she was extremely happy when all of that was done.
Though there were bumps and minor frustrations, we’re all genuinely glad that we had Mishka come along camping. If you don’t mind your cat’s fur getting dirty and they’re emotionally relaxed, give it a try!
This Dying Woman’s Heartwarming Note To The Future Owner Of Her Cat Is A Must See
Adopt-A-Cat Month is one of the most important months of the year for those who advocate for the rights of animals. The American Humane Society takes time out to celebrate this occasion every June. Sadly, this is the time of year when the most kittens are born. Unfortunately, they are not able to find forever homes to call their own.
The American Humane Society is doing their absolute best to assist these shelter cats. They are encouraging those who have adopted cats of their own to share their stories, in hopes of providing them with valuable motivation. These feline stories are awesome and they remind us of all the times we’ve shared with our own cats.
In 2015, a woman whose health had started to fail knew that she had to find a home for her cat. She did not want to pass away and leave the animal to fend for themselves. Her son had a rental property that did not allow him to take in any pets. As a result, her cat had nowhere to go. While most people would be thinking of themselves at a time like this, this cat owner is not most people.
Susie the cat was surrendered after her passing. The good folks at Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center were going to find her a home. The woman also left a note with the cat and it is touching. You just might need to grab a Kleenex or two. The owner told the facility about all of the times that they shared together. They enjoyed a quiet life but Susie was the perfect companion.
She’s a shy cat at heart but very friendly. The woman also spoke about the time that she let the cat out for the first time. She tried her best to make sure that Susie knew where her home was but the cat got lost for a few days. After being gone for four days, the cat reappeared during a particularly loud thunderstorm. Susie’s owner knew just how lucky she was and resolved to never let the animal go again.
At that time, she became an indoor car for good and Susie was better off for it. It took her a long while to realize that this kindly woman was actually her friend, though. Once the woman’s health began to fail, she stopped being able to take the cat outside. The animal was afraid to leave the house without her mother but the woman was not able to go much further than her own front porch.
The caretakers knew that she would need some extra love. She was very shy when she first arrived at the facility. Since the shelter knew that Susie would probably have a tough time finding a home, they decided to share the woman’s letter with the general public. They knew that Susie would not be able to find a home as easily unless they were willing to tell her whole story.
The idea worked like a charm. Within two months, they received word from a woman who decided that she was ready to take the cat home. She felt like she had the experience to handle her special needs. These are the happy endings that make our hearts smile. We are glad to see that Susie was able to find a new home before it was too late.
Without this woman’s help, who knows what might have happened to poor Susie? Please be sure to share this story with your closest friends and loved ones as soon as possible. Let’s all do our part to assist the animals who need help when it comes to finding their very own forever homes!
Local Woman Takes in Stray Dogs in Nassau to Protect from Hurricane Dorian
Hurricane Dorian, a category 5 storm, and the strongest to hit landfall on record, deeply impacted the Bahamas when it hit over Labor Day weekend. Winds reached a sustained speed of 185 mph, causing flooding, a lot of damage, and lost lives. Death toll was at over 50, but may be more as more bodies are recovered. There are also many who are displaced from their homes that were damaged in the storm. Among the displaced, are the many stray dogs who call the Bahamas their home.
The Bahamas has always had a stray dog population, but when a hurricane, or even a tropical storm is occurring, people look after themselves first, and often overlook the dogs that roam the streets. Not Chella Phillips of Nassau. Phillips took it upon herself to take in as many dogs as she could into her tiny home. In total, she took in 97 stray dogs before Hurricane Dorian hit.
The dogs had food, water, blankets, and a home to call their own while they waited out the storm together, with Phillips by their side.
Phillips has always loved animals and has been rescuing dogs in Nassau since she moved there over 10 years ago. She started a shelter in her home called “The Voiceless Dogs of Nassau, Bahamas,” keeping a Facebook page that documents her efforts, pictures of the dogs, and more information about . While in her care, dogs are taken to the vet, vaccinated, and cared for until they are adopted or a rescue in the states is able to take them in to adopt them out.
Hurricane Dorian affected the Abaco Islands more than Nassau, but it still caused damage. Phillips house flooded and she lost power. But she remained calm and remained focused on her mission — finding all stray dogs happy and loving homes.
She has said in a post that out of the 97 dogs she took in, she still has 79 that need homes. There aren’t many rescues that are willing to help her, mostly because they are inundated with animals. But she still has hope that the promise she made to these dogs will come true — that they will find happy and loving homes and will no longer live on the streets.
Because of her efforts in saving the homeless dogs of Nassau, people have been trying to help in whatever way they can. A fundraiser was set up with a $20,000 goal, but they have far exceeded that goal. They have raised over $84,000 in donations, so far. The money will go towards food, blankets, supplies, and vet costs that will help in caring for the dogs in the shelter.
You can find more information about the dogs and Phillips shelter on her Facebook page, “The Voiceless Dogs of Nassau, Bahamas.”
After Taking Homeless Dogs Back From St. Maarten, Couple Is Shocked By What Happened When They Got Back!
Do you dream of taking a Caribbean vacation? As winter rounds the corner, everybody starts to imagine spending time on the beach by the sea. For Jennifer and Kevin Boltz, they decided to make their dreams a reality by heading to St. Maarten in the Caribbean. The purpose of their trip was to celebrate Jennifer’s birthday, but when they arrived they got more than they bargained for!
Saint Maarten, also known as Sint Maarten, is a Caribbean island that belongs to the Kingdom of the Netherlands as a constituent country. Only 40,000 people live on the island’s 14 square miles of coverage. The island was named by Christopher Columbus himself back in 1493, so you know there is plenty of history to go along with the beautiful views. No matter what you are looking for, a vacation on Saint Maarten can do the trick.
When Jennifer and Kevin arrived for their vacation, they didn’t plan on taking home any pets. Fortunately for them, they ran into a pair of homeless/stray dogs named Maisie and Coconut. The two dogs were on the brink of starvation, and they were showing signs of serious malnourishment. Despite their physical ailments, Coconut and Maisie were loving, happy, and sweet. Kevin and Jennifer knew that there was no way that they could bring them back home to Colorado unless they came back for a return trip. That would be crazy, though, right?
Well, Kevin knew that the dogs would become part of their family, so he had no problem making a second trip back to St. Maarten. Before he left, Kevin entrusted the care of the dogs to professionals, so he knew that they would be safe while he was away. After dropping Jennifer off at home, Kevin returned to the Caribbean to pick up Coconut and Maisie. The two dogs made the long trip home to Colorado with their new dad.
After bringing the dogs into their new home in Colorado, Jennifer noticed something startling. Both Coconut and Maisie had bellies that were seemingly growing bigger by the minute. It quickly became apparent that both dogs were pregnant. In fact, Coconut and Maisie had a gigantic litter coming! After making the final tally, they noted that Coconut gave birth to ten puppies while Maisie gave birth to seven puppies just a week later. In the blink of an eye, Jennifer and Kevin saw their two Caribbean pups turn into the moms of a combined 17 puppies! While Jennifer and Kevin’s youngest children were ecstatic, it certainly came as a surprise to their parents!
In order to help shoulder the burden of their suddenly expanded family, Jennifer and Kevin have turned to social media. The new doggy parents are looking to raise just enough money to get the dogs the healthcare and love that they deserve. They currently have a GoFundMe campaign that was started by a family friend.
Simple Things Every Work-From-Home Mom Wishes Their Family Would Understand.
Have you ever walked into a shift at work only to be hit with the overwhelming urge to turn around and leave? Most of us don’t leave, of course, because we need our job to live. However, some of us turn to work from home in order to escape the drudge of day-to-day commutes and restrictive schedules. Having said that, working from home isn’t always easy. In fact, most people don’t even realize what goes into the concept. Today, we are going to unveil a few of the most commonly misunderstood things that every work-from-home mom wishes their family would understand.
First and foremost, just because someone is working from home, it doesn’t mean that their job isn’t real. While it can be odd to see someone stay home all day, they’re actually just at their office. Sometimes, those days at the home office can be longer than a regular job while demands are increased. Still, work-from-home professionals want onlookers to know that their jobs are real, their work is difficult, and their focus is important.
Second, work-from-home moms can’t simply put down their work to run errands or take care of the children. Many moms who decide to work from home believe that they will save money on daycare or other childcare expenses. Unfortunately, that just isn’t the case. Working from home means actually working, with your undivided attention. Due to the odd nature of working from home, it can be hard to grasp just how much focus is required on a day-to-day basis. Could you work from your regular office while babysitting and taking care of chores? Probably not, right? If you are a mom looking to work from home in order to save money on daycare, make sure you understand what you are getting into!
Third, working from home doesn’t mean that you are free all of the time. Even if you are your own boss, you are still beholden to the schedule of your clients. According to the hit freelancing website Upwork, remote teams will become an increasingly important part of the employment landscape. Why is this important? Well, the work-from-home moms that we are talking about are only going to be getting even busier! So, no, just because we work from home, it doesn’t mean that we can drop whatever we are doing for a day out.
Finally, even the hardest working mom will need to get out of the house. Working from home can be a fantastic way to take control of your career. However, like any other job, sometimes you just need to step away from the office. For that reason, some self-employed or work-from-home professionals have made it part of their schedule to change up their work environment during the week. Popular places for home-working professionals to work on their craft include coffee shops and libraries.
