Grotto In an Iceberg

This photo was taken during the British Antarctic Expedition. The photo shows the ‘Terra Nova’ from inside the Grotto formed by an iceberg as it turned. The photo was taken by Ponting and presented to King George V in 1914. This photo was taken on Jan 5th, 1911 and what is not able to be seen in this photo is the royal purple colors of the iceberg in contrast to the blue colors of the cavern. Pointing said of this photo, that he had rarely seen anything more beautiful. These is a 100 year old photo from one of the most beautiful spots in Antartica. This photo completely captures the beauty in one of the last frontiers on earth.
